The Baltic in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania greets its visitors, whatever the time of year, with fascinating displays of nature. Excursions to see the natural environment are many and varied: sandy beaches and cliffs, islands and bays are all to be found along the coast of north-west Mecklenburg.
Off to the beach! Fine sand, clear water and brilliant sunshine make for unlimited family fun in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. High spirits on the beach are guaranteed when you’re building sandcastles, rampaging around or playing ball games. Even when the weather is not so good, don your wellies and a raincoat to go hunting for amber, mussels or adder stones.
Mecklenburg-West Pomerania is the perfect destination for a camping holiday. Many sites also offer a great programme of activities so that the whole family is well taken care of. Our special tips are to take a walk along the water’s edge just after you get up, followed by a dip in the sea so that you’re fully awake, and then set off on a tour of discovery in the surrounding area. Visit historic manor houses and castles, take a stroll around charming Wismar or simply take in the gleaming white coastal resorts with their typical seaside architecture.
The beautiful surroundings invite active recreation, for example, hiking, cycling and horse-riding. A visit to the butterfly park in Klütz can easily be combined with a day at the seaside and is always an interesting experience.
Children will have plenty of space to rampage around in the 3,000 square metres of the Mumpitz indoor play park near to Wismar.
Particularly impressive is Schloss Bothmer, the largest Baroque castle in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, situated on the Klützer Winkel peninsula between Wismar and Lübeck.
