The NORDPFADE hiking region is conveniently situated between Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen. The gently undulating countryside was formed by powerful events in the Ice Age and the warmer interglacial periods. This gave rise to the typical north German landscape of extensive wooded areas, wonderful expanses of heathland, lush meadows and fields, mysterious moorland, widely branching rivers and natural lakes. Nestled among the features of this unique landscape are idyllic villages and delightful little towns whose cultural offerings are rich and varied.
Hiking is the ideal way to explore and enjoy the landscape. The gently undulating “Geest” moorland provides plenty of variety, and the absence of steep uphill climbs means that walking is pure, unhurried pleasure.
