If you are looking for a few relaxing days in the countryside, you will find a very special place in the northern Lüneburg Heath. Whether you’re cycling or on foot, there’s a lot to discover, with seemingly infinite views across the Heath as you watch the birds or listen to the bleating of the moorland sheep – an intense experience that allows you to forget the stresses of everyday life. The countryside of the Lüneburg Heath is a real treasure trove, and the Northern Heath, in particular, has much to be discovered.

An ideal way of exploring the area is by mountain bike, though the northern Heath is also the perfect terrain for more leisurely bike tours at any time of year. One of the most popular routes is the Seeve-Radweg, the various sections of which bring you into contact with a natural wilderness and allow you to recharge your batteries.

The opportunities for walking here are abundant, with the popular Heidschnuckenweg taking you from Buchholz, through the Höllenschlucht gorge and up onto the Brunsberg. At 129 meters above sea level, it offers a wonderful, unimpeded view across the Heath.

The Fairytale Trail in Jesteburg, where you feel as though you are in an enchanted forest, is an adventure for young and old alike. After an exciting walk, you can refuel with cake and a coffee or hot chocolate in the “Hof-Café im Lohofer Speicher“. In Egestorf’s Barefoot Park, you can “liberate your feet“, explore all kinds of terrain and rediscover all your senses. Pretty little Egestorf cannot fail to impress, with its lovely half-timbered houses and ancient trees.

If you are looking for a few days of relaxation in a country hotel, the Ringhotel Sellhorn will provide the four-star comfort you seek – from the Heide Spa with its wool treatment wraps to gourmet weeks with specialities from the Lüneburg Heath, activity programmes and the extra-long breakfast buffet. The hotel combines the best aspects of the Lüneburg Heath natural park with a gourmet and wellness break. The surrounding area also offers wonderful day trip destinations: Hamburg, for example, is only 30 minutes away. The Hotel Sellhorn’s gourmet cuisine reflects the natural and cultural environment. Chef Jörn Sommer specialises in a style of cooking that is both creative and light, with traditional vegetables and seasonal specialities.

To relaxing times in the northern Lüneburg Heath!

Harburg District

Harburg District with its varied landscape – the Elbe marshes, the Harburg hills, the northern Heath and, above all, the Lüneburg Heath itself – is shaped by the culture of the region. Whether you are on a bike, a mountain bike or on foot, there is something for everyone. For example, there are long-distance cycle routes through delightful countryside in the Rosengarten Regional Park.
The local rivers and a wide variety of water sports along the Elbe will appeal to water enthusiasts, while cultural attractions such as the Kunststӓtte Bossard in Jesteburg-Lüllau and the Freilichtmuseum am Kiekeberg (open-air museum) in Rosengarten-Ehestorf invite visitors to stop and spend some time.
